Offence Specific Interventions

Managing a Positive Path

Many people who have interactions with the criminal justice system also have difficulties with mental health issues. Sometimes this can be a direct result of criminal proceedings, or potentially undiagnosed or poorly managed mental illness can have a contributory impact on an individuals involvement with offending behaviours. At SKPsychology we have over a decade of experience in forensic practice, both in correctional settings and community based interventions.

Offence Specific Interventions are structured therapeutic approaches designed to address the specific behaviours, attitudes, and risk factors associated with a particular type of offence. Interventions are tailored to the unique dynamics of the individuals overall psychosocial wellbeing and functioning, the offending behaviour, towards a goal of reducing recidivism and improving meaningful and healthy life goals.

It’s important to note that offence specific interventions for particular types of offending behaviours, should only be offered by professionals who have relevant experience in that behavioural presentation. A statement offering offence specific interventions does not automatically equate to that provider having the relevant skill set to appropriately assess risk of recidivism or treatment needs for all offending behaviours.
